Derek Brown, Boys Director of Coaching

I’ve spent more than 14 years coaching across grassroots, competitive, and club-building environments, guided by a player-centered approach that prioritizes a love for the ball, creativity, and long-term development. My coaching journey began with six years in grassroots youth soccer, where I learned the importance of age-appropriate training, clear communication, and creating an environment where young players can truly fall in love with the game. I then moved into competitive and club-building roles, gaining a deeper understanding of development pathways and how to support ambitious, confident athletes as they push toward the highest levels of competition.

What drew me to CVSC is the club’s commitment to community, opportunity, and player-focused development. I believe in building environments where competitiveness and passion coexist with joy and fun – where players feel supported, challenged, and proud to represent their community. My goal in this role is to help strengthen the boys’ program by developing coaches, elevating training standards, and ensuring every player has a pathway to grow, compete, and thrive.

Off the field, I work in sustainable supply-chain modeling, helping organizations build systems that are efficient, responsible, and future-focused. My family is deeply rooted in the game –my wife Heather, my daughter Alysia, and my son Jackson have all played or currently play competitive soccer. The love of the game runs deep at home.

When we’re not at the fields, we enjoy getting away to the Oregon coast, snowboarding in the PNW mountains, or biking around Sunriver when the opportunity arises. I am a lifelong Manchester United supporter and a big admirer of Michael Carrick’s influence at the club.
